Representatives of Justice institutions from the EU, its member states and Latin America met Thursday (19 February) in Brussels to continue strengthening bi-regional judicial co-operation against transnational organized crime.
The meeting, organised by the European Commission, was co-chaired by Ana Gallego and Irena Moozova, Director-General and Deputy Director-General of the Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers, and Myriam Ferran, Deputy Director-General of the Directorate-General for International Partnerships.
Participants included representatives from Latin American Ministries of Justice, EU member states, the European External Action Service (EEAS), Eurojust and the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO).
Discussions focused on enhancing regional and bi-regional strategies to combat transnational organised crime, including support to Joint Investigation Teams, strengthened mutual legal assistance, and closer cooperation between both regions on asset recovery and confiscation, electronic evidence and data protection.
The meeting forms part of EU-Latin America and Caribbean joint efforts to translate political commitments into concrete operational action. In this context, the EU-funded programme EL PACCTO 2.0 plays a key role as a platform for dialogue, institutional strengthening and support to operational cooperation.
