The European Commission has renewed the mandate of the Expert Group on the Competitiveness of the Rail Supply Industry (RSI) until 31 December 2028 and launched a call for applications to select new stakeholder members.
Established in 2018 following a European Parliament resolution on the competitiveness of the rail supply industry, the expert group advises the Commission on promoting the competitiveness of Europe’s rail supply industry, assessing the challenges facing the sector and identifying measures to maintain its global leadership.
Over the past years, the group has proven to be an effective forum for stakeholders, EU countries and the Commission to discuss developments in the industry and European policies relevant to the sector.
The Commission is now inviting stakeholder organisations to apply for membership of the renewed expert group. Applications are open until 30 June 2026.
The call is addressed to stakeholder organisations (‘Type C’ members), including federations, associations, companies from the rail sector and non-governmental organisations, including those representing consumers. Eligible organisations must have at least 50% of their activities taking place in the European Union and have their corporate headquarters, as well as their rail-related divisions, located in an EU country.
Registration in the Transparency Register is required for stakeholder organisations to be appointed or re-appointed as members of the group.
The next meeting of the expert group under its new mandate will take place on 15 October 2026.
