Import value of coffee more than doubled in a decade

In 2025, the EU imported 2.9 million tonnes of coffee from non-EU countries. The amount increased slightly compared with a decade ago, in 2015 (2.7 million tonnes), but the value increased significantly from €8.6 billion to €18.7 billion last year.

Most of the coffee imported in 2025 came from 2 countries: Brazil (1,005,200 tonnes, or 34% of the total extra-EU imports) and Vietnam (587,500 tonnes, 20%). These were followed by Uganda (262,400 tonnes, 9%), Colombia (162,900 tonnes, 6%) and Honduras (136,500 tonnes, 5%).

Around a third of these imports were made by Germany (1,010,500 tonnes imported, or 34% of the total extra-EU imports), followed by Italy (608,000 tonnes, 21%), Spain (281,600 tonnes, 10%), Belgium (269,200 tonnes, 9%) and the Netherlands (216,600 tonnes, 7%).

Germany and Italy top coffee producers

In 2025, over 2.2 million tonnes of coffee, decaffeinated or roasted (including coffee substitutes), were produced in the EU. The amount increased by 12% compared with 2015 (2.0 million tonnes). The EU’s coffee production in 2025 was worth almost €19 billion.

Among the reporting EU countries, Germany produced the most coffee last year (561,200 tonnes, or 25% of the total EU production), followed by Italy (514,200, 23%), ahead of Spain (211.900, 10%), France (146,800, 7%), Poland (134,800, 6%), Sweden (79,400, 4%) and Finland (39,000, 2%). 

These 7 countries produced 77% of the total EU production of coffee.
