The longest-running Eurostat publication is back! For 55 years, the Eurostat regional yearbook has been more than a collection of statistics. It’s a way of understanding the places people call home across the EU and a path to knowing the diverse realities of all our regions. Some are young and fast-growing, others are ageing. Some are centres of innovation and industry, others are leading the way in sustainability, tourism or agriculture.
The new edition covers regional data for 27 EU countries, 9 candidate and 4 EFTA countries, on people and society, economy and finance, also environment and natural resources. This year, it places a particular focus on landscape features and precision farming, diseases of the circulatory system, young people in the labour market, and housing.
In this publication, you will also find key indicators tracking the progress of the sustainable prosperity and competitiveness plan. These indicators feature their own icon next to maps, figures and infographics to help you discover how the regions are evolving on this topic. The Sustainable Development Goals icon will help you identifying related topics more effectively.
The Eurostat regional yearbook features interactive maps, which you can zoom in on to get in-depth information on the region you are most interested in.
The PDF version of this publication can be found on the Eurostat website. The maps in the yearbook are also available as interactive maps in the Statistical Atlas. Additionally, the interactive tool My region lets you create factsheets and compare regions easily, and the interactive publication Regions in Europe features dynamic visualisations with concise text, making it perfect for classroom use.
What’s next?
Eurostat is participating in the European Week of Regions and Cities event, taking place in Brussels from 12 to 14 October.
On 14 October 2026, from 9:00, Eurostat will host the Urban-Rural: Mind the gap! workshop that will explore how housing affordability and access to services shape the attractiveness of territories, examines territorial resilience, and how different areas are adapting to these challenges. The event will be hosted together with representatives from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) and the Joint Research Centre (JRC).
