Commissioner Brunner visits Austria, Slovakia and Czechia for a Youth Dialogue and the Salzburg Forum Ministerial Conference, to discuss migration and internal security priorities

On 10, 11 and 12 September, Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner travelled to Austria, Slovakia and Czechia.

In Austria, he met the Plenary Assembly of the Bishops of the Eastern Catholic Churches of Europe under the auspices of the Council of European Bishops’ Conferences, and visit the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights.  

In Slovakia, he met Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok, to discuss the implementation of the Pact on Migration and Asylum, returns and regional cooperation with the Western Balkans.  

He also participated in a Youth Dialogue on EU internal security, Schengen, disinformation and the war in Ukraine. Youth dialogues are part of the European Commission’s commitment to mainstream the voice of young people in EU policy-making, as set out in European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s Political Guidelines for 2024-2029.  

Commissioner Brunner then travelled to Czechia to attend the Salzburg Forum Ministerial Conference. The Salzburg Forum Ministerial Conference in Valtice focused on child safety and rising youth violence, the fight against drugs trafficking, asylum and migration policy and stepping up cooperation with partner countries. Interior Ministers of the Forum Member States will be in attendance, as well as representatives of the European Union Agency for Asylum, Frontex, Europol, and the Danish presidency.
