Commissioners Hoekstra and Roswall in Malaysia to deepen environmental and climate co-operation with ASEAN countries

On 3, 4 and 5 September, Commissioners Hoekstra and Roswall will be in Malaysia to discuss environmental and climate issues with partners in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), highlighting the shared commitment to address those challenges and boost the green transition of the ASEAN region.

Both Commissioners will take part in the ASEAN-EU Ministerial Dialogue on Environment and Climate change. Commissioner Roswall will participate in an event to launch two investment programmes that will support biodiversity conservation and climate resilience across the region. Commissioner Hoekstra will participate in an event to strengthen cooperation on carbon pricing and market mechanisms as effective tools for climate action. In addition, Commissioner Roswall will participate in a panel discussion on circular economy with the EU-ASEAN Business Council, and both Commissioners will also hold several bilateral meetings with representatives of ASEAN countries.

Commissioner Roswall is also due to visit, together with her Malaysian counterpart, the palm oil plantation POEC and the Carey Island Biodiversity Park in the context of the EU and Malaysia’s shared commitment to combat deforestation and forest degradation.
