Commission call for evidence on the evaluation of the European Environment Agency and the European Environment Information and Observation Network (2022-2026)

The Commission launched a call for evidence to prepare the evaluation of the European Environment Agency (EEA) and the European Environment Information and Observation Network (EIONET) for the period 2022-2026. The call is open for providing feedback and suggestions on the key elements of the evaluation until 21 September 2026.

The evaluation of the EEA and the EIONET, done every five years, is conducted in line with the Commission’s Better Regulation and the Common Approach on EU decentralised agencies. It will help to analyse their performance over the five-year period 2022-2026, measure their effectiveness and efficiency in delivering outputs, assess the relevance and coherence of activities against the overall EU environmental policy priorities and demonstrate the generated added value.

The European Environment Agency is a decentralized agency of the European Union and provides insights on the state of Europe’s environment through collecting, validating and assessing data from reliable sources at national level to analyse trends and produce policy-relevant analyses on environment and climate topics. The EEA assists the European Commission and the Member States in implementing EU environmental legislation, and it informs European citizens about the state and outlook of Europe’s environment.

The European Information and Observation Network is a partnership network of the EEA and around 400 national institutions from 40 countries. It gathers environmental data, builds knowledge, and gives advice to policymakers across Europe.
